Why is this important to you? I believe serving is important because we can serve so many different people and in a wide variety of ways. Why is this your favorite scripture verse? This verse is comforting and makes us put our trust in Him. Whether we are playing the game we love or in everyday life Isaiah 41:10 can be out in to use in so many ways. To know that all we have to do is have trust in God and put our faith with Him, that he will protect and guide us throughout life shows how truly blessed we are.

Why is this important to you? At VMI, we live by an Honor System unlike any other in the nation. I believe that this system of integrity transfers directly to our walk with Christ. People will always doubt what we say, but they will never doubt what we do. Our actions define us, and give us integrity towards other people. If we establish that, they will be far more willing to listen to us as we share the Gospel with them.

This has become my favorite verse this past year, especially as I went through the Ratline at VMI. It is a constant reminder to me that when I don't think I can go any further, when I can't take another step, when all I want to do is quit and lie down, that if put my trust in God once again, He will somehow give me the strength to make it through. The strength I need will come from HIM, and the success will be for HIS glory, not mine.

What else should we know about you? I attend Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, MA where I am a junior with a 92 GPA. My definition: Christ said "But the greatest among you shall be your servant. Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled, and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted" (Matthew 23:11-12). Jesus, the Creator of the universe, the One who holds the universe in the span of His fingers, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, the Alpha and the Omega, the One who calls the beginning from the end, came not to be served but to serve (Matthew 20:28). Who doesnt want to be great? God created us for greatness: counting others more significant than ourselves and not merely looking out for our own interests but also the interests of others. (Phil. 2:2-5).

Favorite Scripture verse: This is super tough. Lord knows I can't exalt one above another. Here is one that really speaks to me. Acts 20:24: "But I do not consider my life of any account as dear to myself, so that I may finish my course and the ministry which I recieved from the Lord Jesus, to testify solemnly of the gospel of the grace of God."
I joyfully give up my life that this gospel of grace, this message of our Saviour might save just one more soul. Look at what Jesus has done for us! We are messengers of the greatest news in all the world! It is a priviledge to be called to such a purpose. This verse drives my life. If we really believe Jesus Christ is "the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and no one gets to the Father except thru Him" (John 14:6) we should be screaming "the gospel of the grace of God" in both word and deed to the people God has put in our life wherever and however we can.

What else should we know about you? I have nothing to boast in. My Saviour is it. Worship Him. Fall in love with Him. Love others as He loves us. Join Him in being a hero to this world. My definition:

Dedication is being fully immersed into the task at hand. When an individual has something that they must accomplish, only a focused, hard-working individual can produce an end result that is in-line with their potential. As a hockey player my dedication and commitment to hockey on the ice and in the weight room has been important to me and essential to my pursuit of success. My actions on and off the ice are an example of my dedication to bettering myself as a hockey player and as a person.
Being dedicated as a hockey player and as a child of God are quite similar. A dedicated Christian understands what is necessary in doing what Jesus would expect from him. The consistency in showing respect for others demonstrates to those around us our faith in Christ, testifying to who Jesus is by way of our chosen actions. Just as people notice your hard work and complete dedication to hockey you can also show your faith through dedication and commitment to the Lord. Living as an example of dedication is a good way to honor our King.

What is your favorite scripture verse and why?
I think my favorite verse is Isaiah 41:10. “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand”. This is my favorite verse because of the knowledge that God is always there to keep me strong and that fear is not an option. As long as I have absolute faith in God he will always be right with me no matter how far I may stray. As a sinner, I acknowledge that I may wander from God. But Jesus suffered and died on the cross for me so that I am able to be forgiven of my sins and be strengthened. I use His strength that is given to me and ignore fear to be a witness for Jesus Christ, my Savior.

What else should we know about you?

My family has been an instrumental part of my life. My Dad (Douglas), Mom (Suzanne), and brother (Matthew) have been very supportive in everything that I do. My father has been a professional hockey strength and conditioning coach for 26 years. His influence and others within the NHL organizations he has worked for have had a huge impact on me throughout my lifetime as a player and as a person. Along with hockey I enjoy weight-training/working out, drawing, photography and American history. I am a sophomore at Sacred Heart University studying Sport Management. When I finish playing hockey I have hopes of working with a professional or college hockey organization, like my father. The experience of college hockey and spending time with my team/room mates will be the things that I appreciate most during my time at SHU.

Definition: Determined to do or achieve something without care for how long or hard one must work for it.

My definition: A continued effort, with determination showed in every movement, much like salmon swimming upstream to spawn, they stick to it, it doesn’t matter how far they have to go or how long it takes, they will get there, even if it costs them their own life.
Patient persistence is important to me as a hockey player every time I step on the ice or into the weight room. I work relentlessly, unyielding, never-ceasing, never showing or promising any reduction of severity, intensity, strength, or pace. Patience is key: Wait patiently for your opportunity. When it comes do not change a thing: Stay persistent. More important than hockey, patient persistence is how I live out my Christian faith. The bible teaches that the reason that God doesn’t take us up to heaven the very moment we accept Christ as our personal savior is because He leaves us here on earth to fulfill a mission, His mission, the Great Commission. While here on earth I strive to be persistent in sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone that God brings into my sphere of influence. But I also need to be patient with those who don’t accept Jesus right away because God can change their hearts over time. The Lord God is a patient persistent God, and I strive to be patiently persistent in prayer and in spreading His message.

What is your favorite scripture verse and why?
I love the entire written inspired word of God, but if I had to choose just one verse to be my current favorite it would have to be Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” I love this verse because it clearly displays the gospel. I am a sinner, God can’t stand my disobedience and my sin, He has to punish sin, someone has to pay the penalty for my sin. I am so thankful that Jesus has paid my debt for me on the cross of Calvary! Thank you for the Free Gift of grace, I did nothing to deserve it!

What else should we know about you (brothers, hobbies, goals, college)?
I feel so blessed to have the family that I have. Especially my Mom (Laura), my Dad (Mark), and my two sisters (Sara and Dana). I love them all. I thank God for my girlfriend Sophie every single day: as she is a gift from God. God has used her in numerous ways to touch my heart and I know He will continue to do so for the rest of my life. I only love her more everyday. I am an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hunting, fishing, camping, and wakeskating. I plan to graduate from Ohio State in 2013 with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering. I would also like to give a shout out to my roommates, I live for four Christian brothers who encourage me daily: love you Cory, Corey, Taylor, and Kevin.

Teamwork. I have learned a lot about glorifying God through teamwork and my time playing hockey. Like hockey players, believers have their own gifts and should use those gifts to spread the word and grow the Kingdom of God. As a defensive defenseman, I know that I’m not going to score many goals. My job is to limit the other team’s opportunities, block shots, and play the body. Our team tends to have success when we put our gifts together and play as a team. Just like hockey, believers should use our gifts to glorify God and get together with other Christians to maximize our spiritual potential.

I love this verse because it reminds me how powerful Christ is. I feel confident when I read this verse. When I try to do things on my own, they usually don’t work out as well as I thought they would or I end up going down the wrong path. But when I trust in Him and pray about things, He always leads me in the right direction.

What else should we know about you?

I am in my third and final season playing for the Alexandria Blizzard (NAHL). My time in Alexandria, MN has been great, as I have been blessed with a great housing family, teammates, and coaches. One of my future goals is to play Division 1 hockey while growing in my faith. My family has been a huge part of my life, I love being with them and I’m so blessed and thankful that they have always been there for me.

Matthew 19:24-26
“Jesus looked at them and said ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’”

I really like this verse because it was one of the verses that a teammate of mine would always quote to me before the national anthem before every game. I went through some tough times on and off the ice in junior hockey and struggled with my faith. When I got to college this reminded me that if I put my total trust in the Lord that He would take care of me and I could achieve things on and off the ice that I could not do alone. I have always been a “do it yourself” independent person, but somewhere along the way I needed to be reminded that no matter what happens at the rink or at home the Lord is always there and living each day according to His Word is the greatest victory I can achieve. The rest is in his hands.

What else should we know about you?

I am a sophomore goalie who plays college hockey for the Colorado College Tigers. Before college, I played junior hockey for the Waterloo Black Hawks of the USHL. My family is one of the most important things in my life. I have a brother who was in the United States Marine Corps and I am beyond proud of him for serving our country and being willing to make the ultimate sacrifice. I also have two sisters whom I love very much along with my parents whom I am very close with. Along with hockey I enjoy fishing, hunting, golf and being on the lake. My goals for the future are to play in the NHL and to continue to grow in my faith and spread it to my teammates.

Just lets me know how powerful God really is. When I am really challenged in hockey, school work, or relationships, this verse pulls me through and helps me put the focus back on Jesus. I am continually learning to get my confidence from God and not from the world or myself.

I have a younger sister, Monique, she is going into the 11th grade at SSM. She loves volleyball and also plays basketball and lacrosse. Starting in the fall of 2011, I will play at Minnesota State University in Mankato, where I was blessed to receive a hockey scholarship. My Dad, John LaFontaine was a college hockey coach and would like to coach at the college level again. My Mom and Dad led a weekly FCA Huddle for two plus years at SSM. I currently attend a youth worship group at my church, River Valley, in Faribault, MN.In addition to hockey, I enjoy golf, basketball, snow skiing and water skiing.

I really like this verse because it is a great feeling to know that you can do anything you want when you believe in God. My other favorite verse is Isaiah 30:21 “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, ‘this is the way; walk in it’." It is really comforting to know that God has a perfect plan for every one of us.

What else should we know about you?

In my free time, I enjoy playing golf and hanging out with my friends. I go to a small church group called Salt every Sunday night with a group of high school juniors. I have one younger brother named Colby, 15, and a younger sister, named Stephanie, 11. My goal is to play college hockey.

God always doesn’t give us a downhill easy ride. Sometimes he gives us an uphill ride and we have to paddle hard. Sometimes we have to go through tough times, and that truly defines our strength and character. We can’t get through that on our own. We have to get through it with God. So each and everyday we need to put on our Armor of God.

My favorite verse of scripture is: Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” This verse is one of the first verses I learned as a kid. When I was very young we made a plaque with Phil. 4:13 on it and hung it on the wall. It has always inspired me to work hard at anything I do. I know that I will succeed because it is through Christ’s strength that I do it, not my own. It gives me confidence to know that God is helping me in all things.

What else should we know about you?

My family attends The Chapel at CrossPoint in Amherst, NY whenever we can. When we are on the road and/or can’t make it to church, my father leads us in home-church. My younger sister, Lynn, and I have been home-schooled by my mother since kindergarten. I am now a Junior in High School. For my University education, I would like to attend the United States Naval Academy.

I have been a USA Hockey on-ice official for four years. This year I am also a student coach for a Bantam House team in Amherst, NY. I have played spring tournament hockey for the Buffalo Prospects for the past five years. I have also played travel soccer for the past six years. This past year I played striker and midfield for the Western New York League Champion Tritown Warriors.

I also like Colossians 3:17 & 23 “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.”
My grandma taught me that when I take care of the things that are important to God, He will take care of the things that are important to me, and that when I do all that is possible, God will do the “impossible”.

What else should we know about you?

I enjoy reading hockey books, the Left Behind Book Series, and the Bible. I have read through the entire Bible 2 times. Most recently, this past summer, I read the entire Bible in 87 days, after being encouraged to do so by a former Bible teacher.
I have one sister, Niccole who is 24 years old. My sister is the Praise and Worship pastor at her church. She played soccer for Oklahoma State on a full-ride scholarship, where she was an Academic All-American and the Ok State Scholar Athlete of the Year. She will finish her Master’s Degree in a couple weeks. My future goals are to attend college and play hockey, to be a dominant NHL player, and to be a Pastor after my playing days are finished.

This is my favorite verse because ever since I was in middle school and my youth group had a theme for the year to "DEFY" and Romans 12 1-2 was the theme verse. It's stuck with me and I really try to live it out and apply it to my life.

What else should we know about you?
Grant is a true student athlete, as he is a member of the National Honor Society and the Paduan Scholars program at St. Francis high school where his grade point average is a 3.8.   At St. Francis, Grant plays both Varsity Lacrosse and Varsity Prep Hockey, whee he lead the team in goals and points.  Grant is the youngest of 3 boys, as both of his brothers play Lacrosse at Gordon College.  When not playing hockey or lacrosse, Grant enjoys playing the Saxophone and sits in the first chair for the school orchestra.   Grant is determined to play Division One hockey and is currently looking at both junior and prep school options for next season.  For your dedication to Serving your youth group, your teammates, your family and your Lord, FCA Hockey is proud to recognize Grant as the April “FCA Hockey Heart and Soul” Athlete of the Month.

What is your favorite scripture verse?
"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." - Jeremiah 29:11
This verse reminds me that no matter how hard or trying my circumstances may be, that everything is under the direct control of Jesus Christ. It reminds me of the Lord’s promise that he knows what He’s doing in my life, that He is working in everything to produce a good and beneficial result, and that I have a Living, Risen Savior that can back up that promise.

What else should we know about you?
Jamie faithfully leads the FCA Hockey Bible Study huddle at Holy Cross University every week. Although he has a very demanding major in Physics, he sets aside time weekly to organize a topic, prepare the bible lesson and leads 10-15 guys each week. Prior to HC, Jamie attended Tabor Academy where he played hockey for 3 years. Jamie has one younger brother Drew, who attends Hamilton College and plays hockey for them. "I can do all things through Him who gives me strength." - Philippians 4:13
Engraved into the palm of my hockey glove with permanent ink, this verse has been one that has always stuck with me. Christ is the most powerful thing on this earth and with Him on our side it is incredible the power we are given by His words. Whenever I have doubts in my everyday life, I always turn to this verse as it reminds me how weak I am by myself, though with Christ anything is possible. 

What else should we know about you?
Kevin came to know the Lord after a friend of his, Gerrit Davis, invited him to church.  Ever since that day, Kevin has been completely consumed by His word. Kevin has been involved in helping to lead different youth groups, as well as getting involved in Young Life.  On the ice, he played two years in Dallas for the Junior Stars, before joining the Bandits.  He is an offensive defenseman and has helped the team put together a 14 game winning streak.  Kevin grew up in California and plans to play college hockey while studying Sports Medicine.   For your dedication to Serving your teammates, your friends and family and your Lord, FCA Hockey is proud to recognize Kevin as the February “FCA Hockey Heart and Soul” Athlete of the Month.

What is your favorite scripture verse?
John 3:16, This verse is so important to me because it sums up the keys to Christianity and is the easiest to explain to a non-believer. I remember being taught this verse my first day at AWANA and after memorizing it, I have never forgot it.

What else should we know about you?
Chris has accepted a full scholarship to attend Colgate University staring in the fall of 2010.  He is currently leading the EJHL in scoring while playing for the South Shore Kings.  His play has earned him recognition on the NHL’s “Watch List” of players to be drafted this spring.  Chris graduated from Xaverian Brothers High School last spring where he played hockey for 3 seasons before joining the Kings.  Chris is a student leader in the youth group at Trinity Community Church in Norwood, Mass and has served the people of the Dominican Republic on a missions trip back in August.  For his dedication to Excellence, along with his willingness to serve his teammates, his family, and the people of the DR, FCA is proud to recognize Chris as the January “FCA Hockey Heart and Soul” Athlete of the Month.

What is your favorite scripture verse?
The first verse that I ever memorized was John 3:16 – “For God so loved the World, that He gave his only begotten Son, and He who believes in me shall have everlasting eternal life”.

What else should we know about you?
I live with my parents and two sisters in Hagerstown, MD and attend John Wesley United Methodist Church. I am a Junior at South Hagerstown High School where I am a member of the school’s FCA Huddle. Besides playing on the varsity hockey team, I also play on the Varsity Lacrosse team. I have been playing hockey for twelve years and play for the Hagerstown Midget U-18 AA team and am an Assistant Captain of the Washington County Northstars High School Hockey Varsity Team (MSHL). I am currently participating as a student coach and life mentor for the Hagerstown Youth Hockey Association's Squirt B team and enjoy having the opportunity to mentor the younger hockey players. I look forward to playing on Team FCA this summer in Buffalo, NY and hope to play college hockey at Penn State after graduation. Why Integrity??
Why is this attribute important to you?   You cannot thrive on the ice, nor in lifewithout the attributes that contribute to integrity (loyalty, work ethic,honor, etc.).  I can attribute much of mysuccess to the loyalty I’ve shown towards my teammates, coaches, family, andmost of all, the Lord who has blessed me with many opportunities.

Favorite scripture?   Ephesians 6:4
"Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord."   I like this one because my father is always there for me and has helped me anyway possible.  I owe him all my current success, and success to come.  

Christopher is a junior at Lockport High School and aparishioner at St. John the Baptist.  Heloves the game of hockey and plays with a lot of passion and energy.  Toward the end of last season he made somechanges to his game that helped him to be a more consistent goalie; addingcomposer to his game.  With the help ofhis family and the Lord, he has been provided so many different opportunitiesto exceed and excel.  Christopher knowsthat  “Through the Lord,  All things are Possible”, and by trusting inHim, he is able to play more relaxed and consistent in the net this season….  This change has helped him lead his team toa  4-1 record with a GAA of 1.40, a savepercentage of 93.8%, and 2 shut-outs… all in his first month of JuniorHockey.    For his loyalty to his teammates, his familyand his Lord, FCA is proud to recognize Christopher as the October heart andSoul Athlete of the Month.

Why Teamwork?
The bond that you have with your teammates is more important to you than you can ever imagine. You play and love the same game with the same guys that love it just like you and that's where you really start to come together. Scripture that speaks to me on teamwork is " Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another." Proverbs 27:17

Favorite scripture?
" I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13.
When I'm in doubt about something I think of that scripture and pray to God that he will help me.

Josh’s many abilities on the ice, including his speed, penalty kill ability, and aggressive play on both ends of the ice have earned him a spot on the USHL draft list. Josh regularly attends prayer meetings and prays for his teammates before every game. For his passion for his teammates, for hockey, and for the Lord, FCA Hockey is proud to recognize Josh as the September Heart and Soul Athlete of the Month.

Jon Clark played for the Bismarck Bobcats for the last two years in the NAHL. A solid defensemen and leader, Jon skated to a +38 last season while serving as their team captain. Jon was instrumental in leading a team huddle before every home game with teammates in which they would pray for safety as well as that their play would glorify God. The core value that Jon relates to the most is "Teamwork".

His belief in a united spirit and purpose will help him as he attends the United States Military Academy at West Point this fall. FCA Hockey is proud to recognize Jon for his tremendous leadership and is honored to have him as our first Heart and Soul Athlete of the month.
