Graham Thomas - April Coach of the Month
UBC Women’s Hockey – Head Coach
Chosen Attribute (Teamwork, Excellence, Serving, and Integrity):
Why is this attribute important to you?
I believe this attribute is one of hardest ones to master so it must be valuable! It is something I strive
to get better at everyday. "If you stand for nothing you will fall for everything".
What is your favorite scripture verse? Why is this important to you?
Hebrews 12:11- All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, aftewards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.
Brad Frost the head coach at the University of Minnesota told me about this verse and how it emphasizes the importance of Discipline within a team and my own personal life. It is so true and relative to coaching and leading others.
Who is your favorite coach outside of hockey? Why?
Tony Dungy, a true inspiration and model of how to coach with principles and integrity. His many
books have helped me become a better leader, coach, husband, father and person.
What is your dream coaching job (if different than your current position)?
I love the city of Vancouver and UBC, there would only be a few other College teams across North
America where I would be interested in moving our family to. In the long term I would to pursue getting back into the Men's game when our children are older.
Share a recent coaching highlight that you have had.
In January our team went 7-1 and I reached the 50th regular season win milestone in 2.5 years. A true
team accomplishment, I am very lucky to be surrounded by great coaches and players.
