Grand Rapids, MI
Lake Superior State University
Chosen Attribute: Integrity, serving
Why is this important to you?
Life/coaching is about helping others
Favorite Scripture verse:
Proverbs 3:5-6 - Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. Acknowledge Him in all your ways, and He will make your paths straight.
We can allow God to lead us through all life’s peaks and valleys, trusting Him knowing that He has our best interests in store for us.
Who is your favorite coach outside of hockey? Why?
Tony Dungy…he lead with humility and served others.
What is your dream coaching job (if different than your current position)?
Coaching hockey at a high level is a dream job
Share a recent coaching highlight that you have had.
Meeting family members of our players on the road or at home games is very satisfying.
Tell us a little bit about your coaching philosophy. Why do you coach?
I try to coach with a servant-leadership mentality. I played this great sport until I was about 30 years old so I just want to pass that knowledge and experience on to our players so they can have that opportunity. I really enjoy learning from coaches like John Wooden and Tony Dungy as I like their approach to coaching, it’s more of a teaching philosophy than anything. I try to let my actions and speech reflect my faith in Christ at the rink and away from the rink as well. People know where I stand and what I believe in so if they any issues they know they can always come and talk to me.
