PERRY, NEW YORK – David Evans, a former college and professional hockey player who later won a state championship and earned state coach of the year honors in the hockey-rich state of New York as a high school coach, has been named Director of Coaches Ministry for FCA Hockey. Rick Randazzo, National Director of FCA Hockey, made the announcement Tuesday.
Among his responsibilities, Evans and his family will join Randazzo and his family on the 50 States, 50 Cities Tour beginning in August, 2013 in Chicago, Ill. The stop in Illinois will kick off the third year of the 50 States, 50 Cities Tour, and will mark the 19th state visited on the tour. After spending August together, each family will split off and travel to different States, visiting 17 States over nine months.
Evans’ hockey career began in the Atlantic province of New Brunswick, Canada. After a successful junior career with the Kanata Valley Lasers (Ontario), Evans spent 4 years at Elmira College (N.Y.). He finished his college career with 132 points and a place on the Division III All-American team. After playing in the minors for two seasons (ECHL and UHL), David began his coaching career at SUNY Brockport, where he worked from 1999-2002.
For the past 11 seasons he has developed the Webster (N.Y). Thomas High School hockey team into a disciplined, hard-working hockey machine. Under his leadership, the Thomas Titans have won five Section V Championships and a Division II NYS Championship in 2008, the same season he was named NYS Coach of the Year. The only coach in the history of the Titans hockey program, Evans established a 168-60-22 record and a .684 winning percentage at the school.
Evans has been a volunteer with FCA Hockey for the past 18 months, working at several camps and as a part of the coaching staff of the Team FCA Hockey teams.
Evans’ wife, Heather, and their four children will be touring with David.
