Offsides

This week guest author Scott Wagner, Director of Camps Ministry, FCA Hockey, is back to give us a powerful message on 'Offsides'!  Many thanks to Scott.

Offsides - "Oh man, not again!"

Heb 9:28 “So Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.”

Ps 62: 5-8 “My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him. 6 He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. 7 In God is my salvation and my glory; the rock of my strength,  and my refuge, is in God.

Ps 37:7  Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.

Is 8 17 “And I will wait on the Lord, who hides His face from the house of Jacob; and I will hope in Him.

Timing is important! In so many ways timing can actually be a critical piece of the plan or strategy a coach is trying to implement on the ice. It can be the difference between receiving a sweet set-up on the open side of the net or instead watching a pass go straight by you, just inches ahead of your stick. I’m sure all of us at one time or another have either had a great scoring opportunity taken from us by a teammate or we took one from our teammate by jumping ahead of the puck: Tweet – Off Sides! It’s actually rather embarrassing.

Timing is critical to our lives on so many levels, but none as much so as waiting on the Lord and His timing.

Is 49:23c “For they shall not be ashamed who wait for Me.”

An Awesome Promise! God’s timing ensures us success, because it’s His plan and His purposes being fulfilled, not ours. God is so confident in His plans that here in this verse He gives a promise to anyone who would take Him up on it, believe that He means what He says.

Waiting is not always easy. Actually, it’s never easy to wait, especially on God, but I have found that in the long run it saves time and trouble to wait. The reason is because whenever I get ahead of God, trying to hurry things along or just because I think I can, things never go right and I spend more time fixing the mistakes than if I had just waited. I would like to say that I always listen and do what God tells me to do, but that would not be honest.

So how do we know God’s plan and how do we know for sure He is telling us to move or act?

Well, ‘the how’ is all about having a relationship with the play maker: God!

Jesus said, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. John 10:27-28

So, do you hear Jesus’ voice? Only you can answer that question, but I will say that He speaks in a still small voice. You really have to listen for it, and wait on His response. And the promise is wonderful:

Is 49:23c “For they shall not be ashamed who wait for Me.”

Here’s some reading to help start a relationship with God:

Rom 3:23, Rom 6:23; Rom 5:8; Rom 10:9-10
